from Sharon Watkins: Join me and urge Congress to override the President's veto of SCHIP
Because I believe so strongly in health care for all our children, I have joined with other religious leaders to urge the Congress to override the President's veto of the bipartisan bill to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a bill that would continue and expand coverage to some of the more than 9 million uninsured children in our nation.
The opportunity for Congress to override this veto happens today, October 18th. Please join me and other religious leaders as we urge Congress to override the President's unhealthy veto of this important bipartisan bill.
TAKE ACTION!
Here's What You Can Do:
(1) A change in votes by less than 20 members of Congress will provide the margin necessary to override the President's veto. Pray that those members of Congress who have opposed this bipartisan bill in the past will give careful--and, if they are people of faith, prayerful--consideration to changing their minds on this important moral issue.
(2) Call your Senators and your representative and urge them to vote in favor of overriding the President's veto: 1-1-800-861-5343.
(3) Sign a petition calling for a Congressional override of the President's veto and please encourage others to do the same. CLICK HERE to sign the petition.
