from Chris Hobgood: WE STILL NEED YOU to SPEAK OUT on IRAQ!
On October 10th, my good friend and colleague, John Thomas, General Minister and President of the
United Church of Christ, presented thousands of petitions to Congress, petitions signed by Christians
prayerfully opposing the war in Iraq. (The petitions included the names of hundreds of Disciples). When he tried to deliver the petitions to the White House, the latter refused to receive them, John refused to leave, and so John was arrested as a peaceful act of civil disobedience.
As our way of showing solidarity with John, we are going to join with our sisters and brothers in the United Church of Christ and continue to add our voice to this important and continuing campaign. So . . . if you have not yet signed our Disciples petition calling for an end to the war in Iraq, NOW is the time to do so.
By joining our voices with our ecumenical and interfaith partners, we strengthen the faith-based movement for peace in the Middle East. By speaking out as Disciples, we let the world know that we, too, wish to be counted as part of the faithful opposition to this war.
So, please, sign the Disciples petition today!
