DISCIPLES CENTER for PUBLIC WITNESS
The mission of the
DISCIPLES CENTER for PUBLIC WITNESS is to promote more informed, thoughtful, prayerful,
and effective involvement in public witness and justice advocacy by members, activists, and leaders of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
This includes
* providing opportunities for Disciples to explore the role of religion in public life;
* informing Disciples about public policy issues and concerns;
* educating Disciples about effective ways to engage in public policy advocacy;
* encouraging and facilitating cooperative work with ecumenical and interfaith partners on
public policy issues and concerns consistent with the public policy views and values articulated by
. . . the General Assembly in its sense-of-the-assembly resolutions;
. . . the General Minister and President in official statements and pastoral letters;
. . . Global Ministries, Disciples Home Missions, and the Council on Christian Unity;
. . . Resolutions of the National Council of Churches, the Canadian Council of Churches,
and
. . . the World Council of Churches on which official Disciples representatives voted 'yes'.
The Center carries out its mission in a number of ways:
