D A W N
The Disciples Advocacy and Witness Network (DAWN) is a regional
advocacy network that seeks faithfully to proclaim and promote within the Capital Area the ethical imperatives
of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
As a ministry of the
Christian Church Capital Area, DAWN brings together concerned Disciples--
individuals, congregations, and organizations in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia,
Delaware and the District of Columbia--to work together in the continuing struggle against
racism, violence, and poverty.
DAWN is a member organization of the
Disciples Justice Action Network (DJAN), a local partner of
Sojourners/Call to Renewal, a member of the faith groups network of the
Interfaith Alliance
and a partner in ministry with the
Disciples Peace Fellowship.
DAWN is also a partner in ministry with the
Christian Council of Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore, the
InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington, the
Maryland Interfaith Legislative Committee, the
Virginia Council of Churches, the
Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, the
Washington Interfaith Network, and the
West Virginia Council of Churches.
In partnership with others, DAWN has launched several important projects and programs.
These include a Safe Havens program at the Pilgrimage Outreach Center,
the
antiracism/proreconciliation initiative of the Christian Church Capital Area,
an annual Disciples Advocacy gathering in conjunction with
Ecumenical Advocacy Days for Global Peace with Justice,
and the
Disciples Center for Public Witness.
