AMERICAN HUMANIST ASSOCIATION The mission of the American Humanist Association (AHA) is to promote the spread of humanism, raise public awareness and acceptance of humanism, and encourage the continued refinement of the humanist philosophy. The AHA works democratically to establish and protect the rights of all people in a peaceful, sustainable world of hope, opportunity, and fulfillment. We welcome as members those who share the humanist quest and dream, and cooperate with others who seek to further these values. Although not theistic, some humanists identify themselves as religious or spiritual due to their belief that religion or spirituality, rightly understood, preserves and promotes certain basic and shared human values. Religious or spiritual humanists generally think of religion or spirituality as a personal response to the awe and wonder of life, and as a deeply committed participation in the human quest for the good life in a shared world. Roy Speckhardt, Executive Director of AHA, is a member of the EPF Leadership Team. |
