Disciples Justice Action Network

Justice Workshop Offered:

The leadership of our denomination has stressed over and over again that one of the marks of a healthy and authentic church is "a passion for justice." To promote this passion and to encourage all Disciples to respond more faithfully to the Gospel's call to justice, DJAN provides a workshop to congregations, regions and ecumenical groups entitled, "Jesus, Justice, and Spirituality: The Bible and Contemporary Economic Issues."

Workshop Content: Click Here for Complete Outline

I. Bible Study: A review of the primary biblical texts that express the theme of "biblical justice."

II. Political/Economic Analysis: A sketch of the American political economic system is proposed. Issues are discussed and various reforms are considered.

III. Strategies for change: Various strategies are suggested for local Church involvement in social change. The spirituality and formation of small justice oriented mission groups is explored.

Workshop Format and Cost:

The workshop combines lecture, readings, and small group discussions. The cost of providing the workshop will be considered on a sliding scale. A half-day workshop (three hours) is standard, but the model can be adjusted to meet local time availability. Two day events are possible, and the workshop leader is usually available to preach. A minimum of six participants is required for the workshop.

Disciples Justice Action Network (DJAN) is an unofficial peace and social-justice organization of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

"In the unity of the body of Christ, we are called by God as a covenanted people to join in prayerful discernment and prophetic action for the sake of the Gospel. As a network of individuals and organizations, we are committed to demonstrating acts of justice for all of God's creation."
